About University Development & Alumni Relations:

The Office of University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) is dedicated to soliciting the private funding necessary to support the strategic goals of the University in teaching, learning, and research. The personnel of UDAR work university-wide as well as within individual schools and colleges of the University to discover, motivate, cultivate, solicit, and steward alumni, parents, faculty, and friends for immediate, long-range, and future financial support, through gifts and pledges to the University, for critical operations such as student aid, faculty support, academic and research program development, and facilities and infrastructure. UDAR's endeavors raise funds for immediate University use and also for the University's endowment.

About the Role

About the Associate Vice President, Advancement Services & Analytics:

NYU is seeking a dynamic, entrepreneurial professional to be the next Associate Vice President of Advancement Services and Analytics (AVP) at UDAR. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer/VP of Operations and at UDAR, the AVP will oversee the functions of advancement services, data management and strategy, and information technology and reporting in support of the global university fundraising programs and campaigns at NYU. Leading a team of 40+ staff, this individual will be responsible for ensuring excellent service and outcomes across all three departments in addition to partnering with UDAR senior leadership and leadership/teams across the university to drive ambitious fundraising goals and growth. This role is an exciting opportunity for a business-oriented and inclusive leader to shape Advancement Services, Data Management and Strategy and IT in partnership with senior leadership at a moment of growth and change at NYU.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Team and Organizational Leadership

    • Develop integrated strategy across Advancement Services, Data Management and Strategy, and IT and Reporting to maximize UDAR's ability to meet and exceed fundraising goals.
    • Provide supportive, collaborative, and results-driven leadership to Advancement Services, Data Management and Strategy, and IT and Reporting teams.
    • Collaborate with UDAR senior leadership and leadership/teams across the university in promoting and supporting the fundraising process and driving favorable outcomes.
    • Ensure appropriate branding for NYU, seamless communications, and timely and professional responses across internal and external stakeholders.
    • Partner with UDAR senior leadership to deliver superior client and constituent-focused services, data, and tools.
    • Build and maintain a strong focus on customer service, with the ultimate goal of delighting internal and external stakeholders across UDAR and NYU broadly.
  • Advancement Services and Donor Experience

    • In partnership with the AVP Advancement Services, manage global, university-wide gift administration of over 90,000 gifts annually, ensuring compliance with internal and external policies and federal and state laws.
    • Manage relationships with NYU schools including Med, Law, Dental, Stern, etc. to ensure gift administration processes are inclusive of their needs and compliant with relevant policies and guidelines.
    • Ensure advancement services team provides quality customer service to prospects, donors, and alumni and responds in a timely manner to inquiries regarding gifts, pledges, allocations, and receipting.
    • Lead the development and definition of donor experience standards, including contact by phone, mail, and relevant technology channels (e.g. NYU Giving) and the receipt and acknowledgment of gifts.
    • Develop policies, procedures, and metrics to formalize and measure donor experience.
  • Data Management and Strategy

    • Support the integrity, efficiency, and strategic use of data within the Office of Development and University Relations (UDAR).
    • In partnership with the team, manage data imports, ensure data quality, and implement innovative strategies to enhance the utility of constituent and fundraising information.
    • Maintain data standards for donor campaigns, alumni relations, and event management, as well as well as collaborating with unit staff and fostering collaboration with external vendors to ensure data systems align with institutional objectives
    • Develop and implement metrics across all support departments to meet the needs of the SVP and UDAR senior leadership team.
    • Develop a robust reporting model, including dashboards, for real-time decision making for UDAR overall, school and university senior leadership, and periodic/annual reporting as required.
    • Collaborate with UDAR and university subject-matter experts to ensure metrics, reporting, and analytical tools meet stakeholder requirements and deliver relevant and actionable information.
  • Information Technology and Reporting

    • Oversee the delivery of secure, reliable, and recoverable hardware, software, and data infrastructure for UDAR to support and inform annual and campaign fundraising goals.
    • Manage new global university fundraising system, Blackbaud CRM, ensuring appropriate training and support to maximize utilization and effectiveness.
    • Oversee the IT Help Desk, inventory of IT equipment, and control/inventory all purchases and deployment of software within UDAR.
    • With Data Management and Strategy, ensure impeccable data integrity, resulting from quality control, testing, training, and strong review and approval systems.
    • Support and champion the adoption of innovative technologies and best practices to meet or exceed stakeholder expectations and ensure support for annual and campaign fundraising success.
    • Develop and maintain partnerships with University IT teams in the ongoing maintenance, upgrades, and integration of the CRM, utilizing Service Level Agreements where appropriate.
    • Ensure robust and up-to-date security strategies at all times.

Who You'll Work With

You will report to the Chief Operating Officer/VP of Operations. You will lead the Advancement Services, Data Management and Strategy, and IT and Reporting teams, with 4-5 direct reports.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 15+ years of professional experience with at least 5 years leading advancement services and/or business analytics for a large university or non-profit institution, ideally in a global setting
  • Track record of leading and developing high-performing, diverse teams, across multiple functions, to achieve ambitious results
  • Demonstrated commitment to creating and promoting a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace environment
  • Demonstrated analytical, project design/management, and creative problem solving skills
  • Ability to design and lead an analytics program that delivers clear business insights
  • Track record of effectively managing a CRM (ideally Blackbaud)
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; an ability to build trust and credibility with senior internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong relationship building skills with an ability to manage through influence
  • Familiarity with best practices for leading support departments in a fundraising environment
  • Ability to successfully navigate a complex and highly matrixed environment
  • Ability to impart understanding of complicated ideas and statistics in a clear and simple manner to a wide variety of stakeholders, from frontline staff to University Leadership
  • Experience using advanced statistical software/programming tools and languages a plus

Compensation

New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, or other items.
