ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:
Echoing Green inspires, educates and mobilizes next generation talent to deliver bold new solutions for social change. By operating a world-renowned and highly competitive fellowship program, Echoing Green has helped launch some of the most innovative, effective and well-known social change organizations in operation today, including Teach For America, City Year, Working Today, College Summit, Citizen Schools, Global Fund for Children, EarthRights International, SKS Microfinance and Genocide Intervention Network. Founded in 1987 by the leadership of the private equity firm General Atlantic, Echoing Green has to-date invested over $28 million and launched more than 400 new social change organizations. We know through years of investing in the world’s most visionary social entrepreneurs that change comes not just from a well funded idea or another proven model. It comes from human beings who align their heads with their hearts to become engines for social change. At Echoing Green, we believe it takes next generation talent to meet our world’s most pressing challenges with new solutions. For more information, please visit www.echoinggreen.org.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
While the organization has been in existence for over 23 years, the new director will have a mandate to help the organization grow beyond its core Fellowship program, helping Echoing Green’s offerings become more robust and catalytic. The ideal candidate will come to the table eager to develop and execute a funding strategy that supports the expanded scope and vision for the organization. Reporting directly to the senior vice president, the director of development will lead the organization’s resource development efforts to support Echoing Green’s work, with a particular focus on individual donors, foundations and corporate funders.
Responsibilities will include:
- Meeting the annual development goal of roughly $5 million, with a goal of doubling the budget over the next 3-5 years as well as undertaking a significant capital campaign focused on building a social entrepreneurship fellowship fund.
- Laying the foundation for long-term success through managing a strong team of four, serving as a resource to that team and collaborating effectively across the organization.
- Developing the strategic plan and vision for the long-term growth and sustainability of the organization, including the development of a fund model, as well as designing cultivation strategies and innovative initiatives to build broader bases of support from Echoing Green’s stakeholder community.
- Support and manage Echoing Green’s Social Investment Council, a network of nearly 100 socially conscious young leaders from the private sector who actively support Echoing Green’s mission to invest in and support social entrepreneurs.
- Manage the relationship with the Echoing Green Board of Directors, owning the day-to-day communications and generating continued support for fundraising initiatives.
- Collaborate with engaged philanthropists, leveraging their skills and knowledge on behalf of both Echoing Green and its fellows, and developing meaningful events and roundtables for the organization’s philanthropic community.
- Leading the development of a new and innovating funding strategy, with the goal of using new technology and innovative thinking to re-energize fundraising efforts.
- Serving as a member of the organization’s leadership team, providing input on issues and decisions that impact the operations and growth of Echoing Green.
- Building relationships with new potential individual, foundation and corporate investors.
- Writing letters of intent, grant applications and grant reports.
- Conducting and coordinating research into prospective investors and funding sources.
- Coordinating development strategy and efforts with the Board, the Development, helping internal and external stakeholders effectively communicate both the vision and accomplishments of the organization.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
