ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Growth Strategy and Development team helps our client fulfill its potential as a force for change by marshaling resources, cultivating public and private sector champions and strategically seizing opportunities for expansion and revenue growth both nationally and regionally.
The Managing Director, Learning and Development plays a critical role in helping our client meet ambitious fundraising goals by overseeing the training and professional development of its 130+ regional staff members. The Managing Director manages a team of two to research and identify regional staff training and support needs and design and evaluate the tools to address those needs. The ideal candidate is an exceptional relationship builder and manager, a strategic thinker and combines compelling teaching skills with a drive to innovate.
The Managing Director, Learning and Development is a member of the Growth Strategy & Development's regional development team. The regional development team ensures that all of our client's regions nationwide catalyze their communities to end educational inequity by strategically seizing opportunities for revenue growth and cultivating public/private sector champions. Our client's regional offices raise 75% of the organization's annual operating funding, totaling in excess of $150 million this year and growing to more than $300 million in 2013.
The Managing Director, Learning and Development reports to the Vice President, Regional Development and works closely with regional executive directors and teams as well as other key members of the Growth Strategy and Development Team.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Vice President, Regional Development to set a long-term vision, goals and plan to train and support 130+ fundraising staff in 35+ regions nationwide
- Manage the L&D team (including a Director of Design and an associate)
- Gather and analyze data on staff needs and knowledge gaps through direct interactions, focus groups, surveys and other means
- Leverage content experts and managers on development teams in the regions to design, create and deliver role-specific curricula to train and professionally develop new and veteran regional staff
- Capture best-practices from top fundraising regions, other departments within the organization and from other organizations and integrate into training and curricula
- Implement curricula through various traditional and digital mediums, including, but not limited to: direct training, conference sessions, online trainings, peer-to-peer interactions and prepping managers to implement on-the-job training
- Constantly innovate, using new technology and new ideas to increase curricula effectiveness while also capturing economies of scale
- Aid regions in hiring and on-boarding new development staff through the creation of team structure frameworks, job descriptions and other materials, as well as one-on-one training and support of hiring managers as necessary
- In collaboration with the VP of Regional Development, develop talent management rubrics and systems to help identify, retain and promote excellent development staff in the regions
- Manage all aspects of development conferences, from overseeing logistics to crafting sessions, evaluating session effectiveness and designing session follow-up to ensure content retention.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
Skills:
- Bachelor's degree required
- Minimum 4-7 years of work experience
- 1-2 years management experience preferred
- Exemplary critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Dynamic communication and relationship-building skills
- Experience identifying key gaps in understanding, and developing and delivering compelling and effective trainings and curricula to fill those gaps
- Project-management experience
- Development staff member experience at our client preferred
Travel required (average of once a month)

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Salary for this position is competitive and depends on prior experience. In addition, a comprehensive benefits package is included.
